The fifth Football Association of Moldova (FMF) Viitorul Tournament has brought together the top players in the country born in 1997, with a side representing the western region scooping the top prize.
Teams representing four geographic regions came together to compete for the trophy, with Viitorul literally "the future". The northern outfit beat their eastern counterparts 4-0 to reach the final, where they met a side from the west, 5-0 winners against a southern selection. Dan Grubii put the northerners ahead 15 minutes into the final, but Emil Ciornii levelled from the spot for the western teenagers two minutes after the break, and Victor Afanasiev's side went on to win the game 6-5 on penalties.
FMF vice-president Radu Rebeja handed out the trophy at the end of the match which once again proved to be a significant draw for football fans and youth team coaches. It is now a regular feature of the Moldovan footballing calendar.
