Villa and QPR wins taint Wigan's FA Cup success

Maynor Figueroa, Callum McManaman and Jordi Gómez struck between the 30th and 33rd minutes as Wigan Athletic FC made it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a shock 3-0 win at Everton FC, but Roberto Martínez's side ended the day in the relegation zone.

Aston Villa FC's 2-1 success at second-from-bottom Reading FC saw them rise above the Latics, with the Birmingham club coming from behind thanks to goals from Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor. Bottom club Queens Park Rangers are now level on points with Reading following a 3-1 home win against Sunderland AFC, with splendid strikes from Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas securing all three points for Harry Redknapp's side.

Further up the table, Grant Holt had a late penalty saved as Norwich City FC were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Southampton FC at snowy Carrow Road, while Jonathan de Guzman's own goal tipped the balance in West Bromwich Albion FC's favour as they beat Swansea City FC 2-1.

Carlos Tévez hit a hat-trick as Manchester City FC scored five without reply at home against Barnsley FC in the late FA Cup game, and the quarter-finals continue on Sunday when Manchester United FC play host to Chelsea FC while Milwall FC play host to Blackburn Rovers FC in an all-second tier encounter.
