Olympique Lyonnais suffered a blow to their title chances in France as they succumbed 2-1 at home to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, allowing Olympique de Marseille to climb into second spot.
Ligue 1 pacesetters PSG eked out a 1-0 win against Montpellier Hérault SC on Friday to put the pressure on their challengers, but Lyon failed to respond in kind at the Stade de Gerland. Giovanni Sio headed in a Ryad Boudebouz corner five minutes after the restart to put the visitors in front, and although Bafétimbi Gomis levelled from the penalty spot, Sio set up Cédric Bakambu to notch the winner two minutes from time.
Without a victory in their last four league outings, Lyon now lie eight points shy of PSG and one behind Marseille, who earned a 1-0 success at ambitious OGC Nice after André-Pierre Gignac headed in from a corner on 15 minutes. Hopeful of moving into the UEFA Champions League places at the start of the day, Nice are now down to sixth, with LOSC Lille fifth following their 2-1 win at Stade Brestois 29, Nolan Roux burying the winner with 12 minutes remaining.
