Juventus overcome Milan to close on title

Juventus held their nerve to see off AC Milan 1-0 and inch closer to successive Serie A titles, despite nearest challengers SSC Napoli also winning.

After the second-placed Partenopei had left it late to overcome Cagliari Calcio earlier in the day, the leaders refused to falter, Arturo Vidal's penalty earning a slender win to maintain their 11-point cushion with five games remaining. Substitute Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia felled Kwadwo Asamoah in the penalty area, allowing the Chilean to fire into the top corner on 57 minutes.

Napoli had to rely on Lorenzo Insigne's 94th-minute winner to oust Cagliari 3-2. Marco Sau appeared to have earned a share of the spoils for the visitors with his effort from outside the area on 71 minutes before Insigne's long-range strike sealed the points.

ACF Fiorentina also needed a late goal from Rômulo Souza Orestes Caldeira to move within a point of third-placed Milan, as they defeated Torino FC 4-3. After racing into a three-goal lead, the Viola were pegged back by Paulo Barreto, Mario Santana and Alessio Cerci, before the Brazilian's winner four minutes from time.

Elsewhere, FC Internazionale Milano climbed into fifth place thanks to Tommaso Rocchi's late goal in a 1-0 win against Parma FC, leaving AS Roma a point back in sixth after they drew with bottom side Pescara Calcio.
