Hibernians FC will play Birkirkara FC to decide the fate of the Maltese Premier League title after the two teams finished the season level on points at the summit.
With one game remaining and goal difference counting for nothing, both title contenders – locked on 42 points – set out hoping to better their rivals' result in their final fixture. The two sides each earned wins, however, meaning that they now face an intriguing winner-takes-all showdown at Ta' Qali National Stadium on Saturday 11 May.
Birkirkara edged out Tarxien Rainbows FC 1-0 on Saturday courtesy of Shola Shodiya's winner on the stroke of half-time. Striving to secure their first top-flight title since 2008/09, Hibernians held their nerve 24 hours later, Malta midfielder Clayton Failla and substitute Jackson Lima weighing in with the goals in an entertaining 2-1 defeat of dethroned champions Valletta FC.
