Magestic Madrid hit Málaga for six

The champagne remains on ice in Barcelona after Real Madrid CF overwhelmed Málaga CF 6-2, while third-placed Club Atlético de Madrid consigned RC Celta de Vigo to a 3-1 reverse.

A home victory at the Santiago Bernabéu was needed to prevent FC Barcelona sealing the Liga title and José Mourinho's team made the perfect start when Raúl Albiol headed in Luka Modrić's corner after two minutes. Roque Santa Cruz levelled against the run of play, but Málaga's task became mountainous when Sergio Sánchez conceded a penalty for a foul on Cristiano Ronaldo and was sent off. 

The Portugal forward was thwarted from the spot, although he soon made amends with a rasping free-kick. Mesut Özil swiftly added a third, yet the hosts were wobbling again when Antunes found the top corner with a venomous 25-metre drive. Karim Benzema restored order on the stroke of half-time and second-half strikes from Modrić and Ángel Di María completed an emphatic win. 

In the early kick-off in Vigo, Atlético were rewarded with the goal their possession merited three minutes after the restart. Koke's corner was flicked on by Miranda and Diego Costa converted at the back post. Juanfran doubled the visitors' lead when his long-range effort deflected in, before Augusto Fernandez set up a grandstand finale. Falcao settled any nerves, however, with a trademark finish. The 3-1 defeat left Celta second-bottom in the table.
