Diego Lugano headed in his first Premier League goal as West Bromwich Albion FC came from behind to draw 1-1 with Everton FC in Pepe Mel's maiden game in charge.
Everton would have supplanted Liverpool FC in fourth place with victory at the Hawthorns and were on course to do so after Kevin Mirallas latched onto Romelu Lukaku's flick four minutes before half-time, holding off Lugano and firing in. The lead appeared safe, with West Brom disjointed until Lugano met James Morrison's near-post cross with an acrobatic header 15 minutes from time.
It set up an absorbing conclusion, with chances at both ends before Sylvain Distin found the net deep into added time – the assistant's raised flag denied the visitors. It means Everton remain sixth in the table, a point behind Tottenham Hotspur FC and next week's opponents Liverpool. West Brom are 13th, four points clear of the relegation zone.
