Paris Saint-Germain have opened up an eight-point buffer in Ligue 1 by cruising to a 3-0 victory at home to struggling Valenciennes FC.

The leaders, who head to Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie on Tuesday, hit the front after 18 minutes when Ezequiel Lavezzi drilled in after reacting quickest to a blocked Zlatan Ibrahimović free-kick.

It took eight minutes of the second half for the visitors' hopes to be extinguished as Ibrahimović hooked in his 19th league goal of the season and Gary Kagelmacher turned a cross from a marauding Lavezzi into his own net.

AS Monaco FC can reduce Paris's advantage back to five points with a win at SC Bastia on Saturday while Valenciennes will hope to remain two points from safety after Évian Thonon Gaillard FC host third-placed LOSC Lille.
