The 33-year-old businessman from the Republika Srpska was elected unopposed for a four-year term at the association’s assembly in Sarajevo.
Zeljković takes the helm of football in Bosnia and Herzegovina in succession to Elvedin Begić, who steps down after completing his mandate of eight years as president.
“This a major obligation for me,” said Zeljković, a former president of FK Borac Banja Luka. “We can build the prosperity of the association. In the future, we will strive for unity and cooperation in a spirit of mutual respect, in order to build an even better [national] association.”
Football progress
Football in Bosnia and Herzegovina has made significant progress in recent years. The national team took part in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil – their first ever appearance at a major tournament – and UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin was present for the opening of the national association’s new headquarters in Sarajevo in November 2018.
The new BHFF premises were built with the help of funding from UEFA's HatTrick assistance programme, which had previously contributed to the construction of the country’s national training centre in Zenica, opened in 2013.
