Stankevičius elected Lithuanian Football Federation president

Edgaras Stankevičius has been elected the new president of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) for a four-year term, stepping up from his role as general secretary.

Stankevičius was the sole candidate to replace Tomas Danilevičius, who had decided not to seek a new mandate having been president since 2017.

Stankevičius, who will turn 36 in September, is the youngest president elected for the role since the LFF returned to UEFA as an independent entity in 1992.

With a background in sports management, he has worked for the LFF since 2016, first taking up a role in the marketing department, before being named general secretary in 2018.

"I am proud what has been already achieved in recent years at the LFF. The organisation is strong and balanced," said Stankevičius. "Now it is a good time to concentrate all our efforts on football development and achieving results. For this we will need all stakeholders – the football community, the government, to work together."

The country's top clubs were represented at the LFF Congress for the first time as the federation adopted a new version of its statutes following consultations with UEFA and FIFA. Congress delegates also elected a new-look Executive Committee, which will now consist of 16 members instead of 20.
