Armen Melikbekyan began his career as a sports journalist before taking up his first administrative role as deputy chief executive of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) in 2005.
In 2018, he became an executive committee member of the FFA, before being appointed general secretary and then elected president in 2019. His tenure included the celebration of the FFA's 30th anniversary in 2022, marked by the opening of the renovated Aboyvan City Stadium, partly funded by the UEFA HatTrick programme. He was re-elected in 2023 for a three-year term. Besides his FFA duties, he was also a long-standing member of UEFA's Youth & Amateur Football, Media and HatTrick committees.
Melikbekyan holds a PhD in Foreign Literature from the Yerevan State Linguistic University where he lectured for five years.
