A tough-tackling defender who also made 72 appearances for Wales between 1975 and 1986, Jones began his career with local club Wrexham before Bob Paisley signed him for Liverpool in 1975 shortly after he turned 20.
Over the next three seasons, Jones would win the European Cup in 1977 and 1978 in addition to the English league title, UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. Jones made exactly 100 appearances for Liverpool, and was also the first Welshman to win the European Cup.
Jones enjoyed three separate spells at Wrexham and played almost 500 games for the club, also representing Chelsea and Huddersfield Town.
A cult hero with fans, Jones remained a passionate supporter of Wrexham and Wales, and he will be remembered as an iconic figure for his achievements and dedication to the game.
