Supporters of Finland’s national teams will play a more active role in shaping the future of Finnish football, thanks to a landmark cooperation agreement between the Finnish Football Association (SPL) and the Finnish National Team Supporters’ Association (SMJK).

Signed ahead of Finland’s men's World Cup qualifier against Lithuania on 9 October, the agreement formalises a long-standing relationship and gives SMJK a greater voice in matchday experiences and broader football culture. Built on shared values of openness, inclusion and mutual respect, the agreement sets a new standard for collaboration between national associations and fan groups.

"This is a major step forward," said SPL president Ari Lahti. "We are truly proud to be jointly promoting a supporter culture that supports our national teams’ success on the field, reflects the best values of the sport and fosters community."

This agreement builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by UEFA and Football Supports Europe (FSE) in January 2023, which set a benchmark for fan engagement and inclusive governance across European football. It aligns with our ongoing joint initiative to support national associations and supporter organisations in establishing and formalising their cooperation. Finland's case sets another strong example as a model of meaningful, dialogue-based partnership.
