Spanish football is mourning former goalkeeper and coach José Manuel Ochotorena, who has died at the age of 64.
Ochotorena, born in the Basque Country, trained as a player in Real Madrid's youth ranks, making his debut with the first team in 1982 and going on to win three league titles and two UEFA Cups.
In 1988, he signed for Valencia, where he stayed until 1992, finishing his career with brief spells at Tenerife, Logroñés and Racing Club. He was capped once by Spain.
After retiring, he became a goalkeeping coach, becoming one of the most admired of his generation. He spent the majority of his career at Valencia, although he worked for Liverpool during Rafael Benítez's time at the English club and for many years combined his work at Mestalla with the position of goalkeeping coach for the Spanish national team.
He worked for La Roja between 2004 and 2021 and was involved in Spain's successes at UEFA EURO 2008, the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2012.
