UEFA is proud to unveil the fifth module of its Take Care programme – Road Safety – reinforcing football’s unique role in promoting health and well-being across society both on and off the pitch.
Developed in collaboration with the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety (UN SSERS), this module builds on UEFA’s long-standing support for the organisation’s global road safety initiatives.
Every day, millions of people travel to matches and training sessions as players, coaches, volunteers, fans, or family members. Through this module, UEFA aims to raise awareness, encourage responsible travel, and create safer environments around football activities. Whether it’s matchday mobility, youth training sessions, or everyday commuting, football has the reach and influence to make road safety a shared priority.
Jean Todt, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety and International Peace Institute Board Chair highlighted: "I am grateful for UEFA’s longstanding partnership and its commitment to raising awareness about road safety through the Take Care programme. Far too many young lives are lost on the world’s roads each year. While we urgently need stronger action from governments and businesses, every individual also has a responsibility. I appreciate that UEFA is using its platform to highlight the simple steps each of us can take to stay safe and save lives”.
Road Safety will be launched at 14:00 CET on 1 December at an event hosted at the House of European Football, UEFA HQ, in Nyon. Highlights include the screening of the Road Safety documentary, narrated by Oscar winner and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Michelle Yeoh and featuring UN-JCDecaux Global Road Safety Champions 2025 Ballon d’Or and UEFA Champions League winner Ousmane Dembélé as well as racing driver Mick Schumacher.
This will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by journalist Pedro Pinto, with leading voices from motorsport and global sports governance including Michele Uva, UEFA Executive Director of Social & Environmental Sustainability, and Jean Todt.
“UEFA is proud to strengthen its commitment with the United Nations to spotlight road safety through our Take Care campaign. Our goal is to promote responsible travel within the football community and beyond, helping save lives and build a safer society”, said Michele Uva.
The Take Care programme is comprised of six modules, each addressing interconnected topics of daily life, that will be released across 2025: physical activity, nutrition, mental health, digital addiction, substance awareness and road safety. The toolkit for each module contains a scientific white paper providing in-depth information on the topic, posters, a podcast, documentary and educational session and can be accessed through the dedicated Take Care website.
