Born in 1946, he developed his game in Kyiv where his natural technique, effortless ball control and flair set him apart from his peers.
At 17 he joined the Dynamo system and quickly rose from a reserve to a regular starter, making his first-team debut in 1965 and becoming a key figure in midfield the following season. His intelligence, technique and team-focused play shaped Dynamo's style of that era and laid the groundwork for the club's future successes.
He won seven league titles, two cups, and in 1975 lifted both the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup under the legendary coaching duo of Valeriy Lobanovskyi and Oleh Bazylevych.
In 1969, Muntyan was named Footballer of the Year in the Soviet Union. He earned a total 49 caps for the national team, appearing at the 1970 FIFA World Cup, and was an unused substitute in the 1972 European Championship final defeat to West Germany.
After retiring, he remained devoted to Dynamo and to Ukrainian football. He coached within the Dynamo system, led Ukraine’s youth and Olympic teams, and worked with clubs both at home and abroad. Muntyan was also known for his charitable work - for many years heading Dynamo's veterans' association, which supports former players in need.
