Yorath made 59 international appearances between 1969 and 1981, scoring twice. As a player for Leeds United he won the First Division title in 1973/74 and became the first Welshman to reach a European Cup Final the following season, losing 2-0 to Bayern Munich.
As Wales manager between 1988 and 1994, Yorath came close to qualifying for the 1994 FIFA World Cup with a talented squad that included Ian Rush, Mark Hughes, Neville Southall and Ryan Giggs.
"To most he was a revered footballing hero, but to us he was dad; a quiet, kind and gentle man," said a statement from Yorath’s children.
Leeds added: "Everyone at Leeds United will remember Terry fondly on and off pitch, and we are devastated by his passing. He will always be a club legend and we offer our sincerest condolences to his friends and family."
