Triesman made a significant impact on the game's governance in England, serving as the association's first independent chair between 2008 and 2010.

Beyond his leadership role at the FA, Lord Triesman sat on the boards of Wembley National Stadium, the Premier League shareholders' meeting and the Football Foundation. He was also a qualified senior referee.

Lord Triesman enjoyed a distinguished career in public life prior to his time in football administration and was widely respected for his integrity, compassion and commitment to using sport as a force for equality.

We offer our thoughts to his family, friends and former colleagues at this difficult time.
