A bespoke app created by the Norwegian Football Association is providing coaches with the tools to develop new skills, more diverse training sessions and, ultimately, better players.

‘tiim’: the app playing a central role in coach development in Norway

When the Norwegian Football Association (NFF) launched tiim in 2023, its ambition was to create a digital home for the nation's coaches at every level of the game.

Designed for everyone from first-time grassroots coaches to experienced elite practitioners, the platform brings together coaching tools, education, articles, ready-made sessions and a personalised profile in one place, helping users find support that matches their stage and needs.

Since then, tiim has become part of the federation’s day-to-day coach-development infrastructure. In April 2026, NFF unveiled an updated plan for children’s and youth football, with new material available via the app and tiim.no – making it an ideal delivery channel for updated methodology, exercises and coach-support tools.

"We hope it will give Norwegian coaches a clearer and more concrete tool in their work with player development from six to 16 years old," said Håkon Grøttland, NFF head of player and coach development.

"We want to get everyone in Norwegian football on board and if we manage to do so, we have a huge [opportunity] to evaluate and further develop."

Last month, NFF convened 40 development staff from its regional associations for a working session focused on turning the plan into better training sessions in clubs across the country.

"This is the starting point for taking the planning out on the field," explained Atle Roar Håland, who is responsible for NFF's work alongside clubs. "It is very important for us to get the professional groups together and build good sports environments so that we can create the best possible training environment for as many clubs as possible throughout Norway."

In that sense, tiim is about far more than simply bringing coaching online. It reflects a broader effort to raise the standard of coach development in Norway by making it more inclusive, interactive and innovative, in line with the NFF’s wider ambition to develop more, and better, coaches for the future.
