McKendry replaces outgoing president Conrad Kirkwood, who led the Irish FA from 2021-2026, and brings a wealth of footballing experience to the position.

Having joined the Irish FA board in 2021 McKendry most recently served as second deputy president, driving the governance and development of the sport across Northern Ireland.

His footballing credentials extend beyond his work with the association, having recently stepped down as a board member with Coleraine FC following 14 years as chairman. He also previously held the position of vice-chair of the Northern Ireland Football League.

"It is an absolute honour and a privilege to be named president of the Irish Football Association," McKendry said. "Football has been at the heart of my life for decades, and I've been incredibly proud to serve the sport in so many different capacities. I’m looking forward to collaborating with the board, our staff, the clubs, and everyone involved in Northern Irish football to ensure we keep building and strengthening the game.

"There's a lot to look forward to, whether that's boosting grassroots participation, upgrading facilities, or watching our national sides continue to progress. I’m genuinely excited for what lies ahead and am fully dedicated to supporting football at all levels."
