Eurosport wins rights contract

Eurosport will broadcast UEFA's youth, women's and Futsal competitions from 2003-2005.

Eurosport has been chosen as the agency to exploit the broadcast rights for UEFA's major youth, women's and Futsal competitions for the period between 2003 and 2005.

Matches broadcast
The deal between UEFA and Eurosport, announced today by UEFA's Professional Football and Marketing Division, means that Eurosport will broadcast most of the matches in various final rounds throughout Europe over the three-year period.

Final rounds
The final rounds in question are:

  • UEFA European Women's Championship (2005)
  • UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship (2003, 2004, 2005)
  • UEFA European Under-19 Championship (2003, 2004 and 2005)
  • UEFA European Under-17 Championship (2003, 2004, 2005)
  • European Futsal Championship (2003, 2005)
  • Agency shortlist
    TEAM Marketing AG were the other agency on the shortlist to handle the rights for the European youth, women's and Futsal competitions. TEAM is currently employed by UEFA to work on the marketing agency contract for European club football's blue-riband competition, the UEFA Champions League, from 2003 to 2006.

    UEFA rights
    Under the contract, UEFA will retain the sponsorship, merchandising and new media rights for all of the above final tournaments.

"It means that UEFA can continue to support, promote and strengthen these growing areas of football right across Europe."
