Vaduz book European return

Sole representatives
Vaduz, who play their league football in the Swiss second flight, overcame FC USV Eschen-Mauren 4-1 in the tournament's 34th final on 5 May to take the title for the eighth year running and become Liechtenstein's sole representative in European club competition in 2005/06.

Nigg strikes
Eschen-Mauren, who beat Vaduz 1-0 to lift the cup in 1987, took the lead through Thomas Nigg one minute into first-half added time, but goals from Igor Manojlovic and Martin Stocklasa and two at the death from Antti Sumiala gave Vaduz a comfortable margin of victory.

'Difficult game'
"It was a very difficult game," said Vaduz coach Martin Andermatt. "My players lacked concentration. Still, in the second half they woke up and exploited the mistakes that our opponents made. In the second half they played as they should have done from the start."

'Very satisfied'
Andermatt's opposite number Alfons Dobler had no complaints, saying: "My team did their utmost and we stopped Vaduz from attacking, which was our goal. I am very satisfied with the performance of my team who did their best to deny Vaduz and fought hard."

Famous result
Vaduz enjoyed their best-ever UEFA Cup campaign this season, becoming the first Liechtenstein club to win a European competition fixture when they overcame the Republic of Ireland's Longford Town FC 4-2 on aggregate on the way to a second qualifying round defeat by Belgium's KSK Beveren.
