Sergio winner
The Galician side had midfielder Aldo Duscher sent off seven minutes before the break, but recovered to win the game against the run of play eleven minutes from time. Substitute Sergio González scored the only goal, the midfielder converting from the penalty spot after Valencia's veteran defender Amedeo Carboni was penalised for shirt-tugging in the area.
Lack of fluency
Depor had the best of the early play at the Riazor with the busy Pedro Munitis creating plenty of problems on the left wing, but they lacked the presence in the area to take advantage of their domination. Both goalkeepers did what they had to do to keep the score goalless in the first half, and for most of the second, although in general both sides struggled to construct any fluent attacking football.
