PSV Eindhoven have decided not to take up their option of signing Chinese left-back Sun Xiang with his loan spell from Shanghai Shenhua about to expire.
Contract option
The 25-year-old, who can also play in midfield, joined the Dutch champions on a six-month loan in the winter break and became the first Chinese player to take part in a UEFA Champions League game in PSV's 1-0 win against Arsenal FC on 20 February 2007. However, PSV sporting director Stan Valckx has revealed the club have passed on their option of a three-year contract.
China duty
The twin brother of Shanghai team-mate Sun Ji, he was also the first Chinese player to appear in the Eredivisie, taking part in five league games and one Dutch Cup match as well as going on to make four UEFA Champions League appearances. He is currently on duty with the Chinese national team, who are preparing for a friendly game against Thailand in Bangkok tomorrow.
