Hodgson accepts Fulham position

Roy Hodgson is to return to English football with Fulham FC after agreeing to become the club's latest manager "on a long-term contract effective from Sunday".

Relegation zone
Hodgson announced last month that he would not be signing a new contract to coach the Finnish national team, who he almost guided to UEFA EURO 2008™, but would instead be taking up a position, thought to ambassadorial, with FC Internazionale Milano. However, the 60-year-old will instead attempt to guide Fulham out of the Premier League relegation zone. "I am delighted to have been offered this opportunity," Hodgson said. "I am determined that we will overcome the current position. It will be a challenge, but one that I will relish."

'Best possible choice'
A Fulham statement added: "With over 32 years experience in England and on the continent, the club is certain that he is the best possible choice to both steer the club away from its precarious position in the relegation zone and also to build a successful team for the future." Hodgson has coached Malmö FF, Switzerland, Inter, Blackburn Rovers FC and Udinese Calcio among other teams. Following the sacking of Lawrie Sanchez, caretaker manager Ray Lewington will be in charge for the final time at Birmingham City FC on Saturday.
