Manchester United FC needed Michael Owen's 200th career club goal to secure a 2-2 draw at Bolton Wanderers FC that nonetheless lifted them to second in the Premier League.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men twice had to come from behind as they attempted to pounce on losses for Arsenal FC and leaders Chelsea FC on Saturday, with Zat Knight turning in from a corner after just six minutes. Nani's superb solo goal restored parity mid-way through the first half, but United then found themselves trailing again following Martin Petrov's deflected effort – until substitute Owen glanced in with 16 minutes left to move them within three points of the summit.

Elsewhere, there were late winners for both Aston Villa FC and Stoke City FC. Emile Heskey found the target two minutes from time to lift Villa up to fifth courtesy of a 2-1 success at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, before James Perch's 85th-minute own goal earned Stoke a similar scoreline at Newcastle United FC.
