Málaga CF have added the scoring pedigree of experienced Netherlands striker Ruud van Nistelrooy to their ranks, after he signed a one-year deal at the Spanish club.

Van Nistelrooy, who made his name with PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United FC and Real Madrid CF, joined Hamburger SV in January 2010. He scored 12 goals in 36 Bundesliga appearances before the expiration of his contract at the end of this season.

The 34-year-old therefore returns to the Spanish Liga – which he won twice with Madrid, scoring 46 goals – on a free transfer. "Here I have a great opportunity to continue playing," he said. "I hope I can help Málaga with many goals." Van Nistelrooy's new employers finished 11th in the Spanish top flight in the 2010/11 campaign.
