Experienced midfielder Paul Scholes has signed a one-year contract extension at Manchester United FC, while promising young goalkeeper Ben Amos has agreed to a further three seasons at Old Trafford.

Scholes, 37, initially announced his retirement from playing last May having made 676 appearances for United, but returned to the fray in January to help ease Sir Alex Ferguson's injury worries. Such was the former England midfielder's impact in the latter half of the campaign, he came third in the vote for the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award.

The 22-year-old Amos, meanwhile, is at the other end of his United career having featured just seven times for the club. He has put pen to paper on terms which tie him to the Premier League runners-up until at least 2015.
