Sutjeska hold nerve to lift first Montenegrin crown

FK Sutjeska claimed their first Montengrin title, as a 2-1 win against FK Lovćen on the final day of the season lifted them five points clear of challengers FK Budućnost Podgorica.

Knowing victory would secure a debut crown, the league leaders showed no sign of nerves as Djordje Cetković and Darko Karadžić gave them a two-goal lead at the interval. A late wobble came in the shape of Goran Vujović's 90th-minute strike for Lovćen, but the Sutjeska party was not to be spoiled, with scenes of delight at the final whistle.

"We had a lot of chances to secure the title, but we chose the hard way. That is why this huge and surprising success is even bigger and even sweeter," said coach Dragan Radojičić, referring to the fact his side allowed chasing Budućnost to cut their 12-point gap at the top to just two in the space of six games.

Even if Radojičić's men had slipped up, last year's champions failed to claim the points required, losing 1-0 against FK Mornar. "We did not lose the title in this match. We lost it because we dropped so many points at home during whole season," said Budućnost coach Radisav Dragićević, whose side succumbed six times on home soil this season.
