Toni Duggan only made her senior England debut last September but she has already made her mark with the last-gasp goal that earned a 1-1 draw against Russia and kept alive her team's UEFA Women's EURO 2013 hopes. The striker told UEFA.com her achievement had not sunk in.
England were heading for a loss and an early Group C exit following Nelli Korovkina's first-half goal, but Duggan, who turns 22 next week, was sent on and struck in the last of three added minutes. However, both she and Ellen White were still disappointed with the result, which leaves them needing to beat France here on Thursday.
Toni Duggan, England goalscorer
I don't really remember much to be honest. I remember a couple of minutes before I missed one, it just hit the crossbar, I was a bit disappointed with that. But at international level you don't normally get a second chance and thankfully I did and I managed to put it away. I'm happy I helped the team.
I don't really think about [the importance of the goal], it's just a goal isn't it? Afterwards you realise the impact it has, but I was just happy I could help the team and play my part.
[When I came on, Hope Powell] just said to be positive really. We knew where he had to be, I'm in good form at my club so I knew I just had to take that performance into this stage.
You can tell from the reaction that we are still disappointed. A draw against Russia, it's not what we set out to do – we set out to win. We're disappointed, but we're going to go back and review, and we have to come back with every confidence that we will beat France.
It is my first senior tournament, so I'm enjoying it. I'm just taking it all in and just enjoying the experience, but it would be lot better if we were winning and hopefully we can go on to do that.
Ellen White, England forward
It was disappointing to concede early on, but I thought our character really showed throughout the game. Great team spirit. And we were pushing and pushing. We needed a result, we stuck together as a team. We were all a little bit disappointed not to come away with the win. We had chances, I had chances obviously, but Toni Duggan – a fantastic player – scored a great goal for us and kept us in it, got us the draw. We are still in it, still fighting, and we'll pick ourselves up again.
It was disappointing [when Rachel Yankey went off early on], she is a very experienced player to have on the pitch, but I thought Kaz Carney stepped up to the plate and played very well. We changed our formation slightly to be more attacking, that helped us. We did attack a lot more in the second half and we were trying to find that goal and Toni popped up with it.
We need to go away, regroup and look forward to the France game ... maybe there will be a little revenge in there as well. We are all really looking forward to that game, it's a massive game for us, and that is what we will be focusing on now.
Valentina Savchenkova, Russia defender & player of the match
First of all it is disappointing because of the result as it is very painful to concede, let's say, at the very last second. We played for a win today, but it turned out as it did We will try to solve things in the next game. Everything is in our hands.
I can say it is the first time in my career I have received such an award [as player of the match] at such a big tournament. I am very pleased.[Thursday's game against Spain] will decide our tournament. We can call it a final battle and we have to win it.
Nelli Korovkina, Russia goalscorer
I must say we played well. However, we lacked patience. Maybe, I don't know, probably there was too much space between the lines and our opponents pressed us there.
[England were] good opponents. It was interesting to face them. They were very aggressive and pushy, fighting until the end. Maybe we also lacked something in this respect and thus the game finally ended in a draw.
A draw is a good result as well. We will see what we can gain against Spain. We will take it seriously and try to put in our best performance. Let's hope we succeed and can get past the group stage
