Jimmy Briand found the net in added time to hand Olympique Lyonnais a 2-1 success away against Rhone derby rivals AS Saint-Étienne, while FC Nantes triumphed again and Olympique de Marseille returned to winning ways.
Beaten in their six previous home derby meetings with Lyon, St-Étienne were hoping for a different outcome this time but fell behind when Alexandre Lacazette struck from a rebound early in the second half. Romain Hamouma equalised with an acrobatic finish, yet heartbreak awaited Les Verts as Briand headed in a Yoann Gourcuff cross in the 93rd minute to lift Lyon up to seventh, two spots above their hosts.
Nantes lie fourth, meanwhile, having impressed again in a 3-0 victory at FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Vincent Bessat broke the deadlock close to half-time before Papy Mison Djilobodji and Filip Djordjević weighed in with goals to give Les Canaris their fifth win in seven league outings. As for Marseille, they celebrated a first win in eight matches in all competitions as an Andé-Pierre Gignac penalty settled a 2-1 defeat of FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
