Lorient sink Monaco, Lyon prevail

FC Lorient struck late to consign ten-man AS Monaco FC to a 2-1 home loss in their Ligue 1 opener, after Olympique Lyonnais kicked off with a 2-0 triumph against Stade Rennais FC.

• Vincent Aboubakar converted an early penalty to give Lorient a shock lead, before Monaco lost Ricardo Carvalho to a 68th-minute red card.
• Radamel Falcao levelled from the spot, but Valentin Lavigne had the final word three minutes from time.
• Lyon won their Ligue 1 opener for the fourth successive season via a 2-0 home success against Rennes.
• Steed Malbranque and Alexandre Lacazette's penalty sealed the points after Corentin Tolisso had hit the woodwork for OL.
