FK Rudar Pljevlja captain Nedjeljko Vlahović reflected on a "difficult and exciting" season after his side sealed their second Montenegrin First League title on Saturday.

FK Rudar Pljevlja captured their second Montenegrin First League title – and first since 2009/10 – with a 4-1 victory against relegated FK Berane.

Goals from defenders Dušan Nestorović and Nemanja Mijušković, keeper Miloš Radanović from the penalty spot and midfielder Predrag Brnović gave Rudar a comfortable win on the last day of the campaign. It was one which kept them clear of defending champions FK Sutjeska, who were held 1-1 by FK Bokelj.

"The fact that we won the title in the final round shows how difficult and exciting a battle it has been with Sutjeska," said Rudar captain Nedjeljko Vlahović. "Despite some poor performances at the beginning of May, and despite winning just two of our last five games, we played the best football in the main part of the season and deserve to celebrate."

Indeed, Rudar were ten points clear of Sutjeska after 22 fixtures, but the chasers were reinvigorated by new coach Brajan Nenezić and picked up 27 points from their last 11 games, including a 1-0 victory against the eventual champions earlier this month. It was too late to overhaul the pacesetters, however.

"We dropped a lot of points at the beginning of the second part of the season and it was difficult to catch Rudar," said Nenezić. "The reaction from my team in the last ten games has been amazing and I have to congratulate them on their efforts."
