4. City walks: Take a stroll along Regent’s Canal; sprawling from east to west across 14 kilometres, there’s no shortage of stops to make from Little Venice to London Zoo.
Walk along via the South Bank of the River Thames – from Tower Bridge to Westminster – for unmissable historical, architectural and cultural points of interest.
5. Free museums worth the wander: The Natural History Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery, the British Museum and the TATE Modern.
Pre-book your free ticket online in advance.
6. Markets: Borough Market, open Monday to Sunday, is London’s oldest food market. Over in the East End, check the Broadway and Columbia Road street markets for delicious food and some colourful scenery.
7. Most #instagrammable place: Is it possible to pick just one? London is the definition of #instagrammable, but if you’re looking for something more unique, wander through the streets of Shoreditch to find your favourite piece of street art for a photo (or selfie).
8. Best place for scenic views: At the top of Primrose Hill, you’ll find one of the six protected viewpoints in London. The summit is almost 63m above sea level, and the trees are cut low so as not to obscure the view.
9. For the historian: Westminster is one the most historical areas in London; from the Houses of Parliament to Buckingham Palace and the Churchill War Rooms, Westminster is a historian’s delight.
10. Best-loved parks: Enjoy the summer weather as a local in some of the city's less touristy green spaces. Go boating in Victoria or Battersea Parks, find the deer in Richmond Park, visit the Kyoto Garden in Holland Park, and if you're feeling adventurous, try pond swimming in Hampstead Heath.
Off the beaten path
⚽ For football fans
Ready for a bit of history? It was at the Freemason's Pub in Covent Garden where the Football Association (FA) was founded in 1863. Over the course of five evenings, the pioneers of football as we know it set the first 13 laws of the game, making the Freemason’s Tavern (as it was called back then) the birthplace of association football. While the pub is not a typical tourist destination per se, it celebrates the Football Association with a display of memorabilia and is also a great place to watch the match.
🍃 Day trip
If you have an extra day to spare, make your way to Brighton, also known as “London-by-the-sea”. Just a one-hour train ride from London Victoria or London Bridge, Brighton is the perfect seaside escape.
