Monterrubio lays down roots at Lens

UEFA Intertoto Cup hopefuls RC Lens have extended Olivier Monterrubio's contract by a year to end speculation over the 30-year-old's future.

The midfielder's existing deal was due to expire next June but the Félix-Bollaert Stadium side have added an extra 12 months to his contract with a number of French and foreign sides reported to be interested in him. Monterrubio made 16 Ligue 1 appearances last term. Lens begin their UEFA Intertoto Cup campaign in the third round this weekend needing a win against FC Chornomorets Odesa of Ukraine to book a place in the UEFA Cup second qualifying round.
