Dramatic encounter
However, Ljungberg's hopes of claiming the title outright were ended by Gulbrandsen's second strike of the semi-final, the Norwegian volleying a 109th-minute winner to send her team into Sunday's final. The 24-year-old had given Norway a first-half lead only for Ljungberg to reply within two minutes. Isabell Herlovsen restored the Norwegian advantage midway through the second period with her second goal of the finals but Ljungberg levelled again two minutes from time. Gulbrandsen finally settled the contest with eleven minutes of extra time remaining.
Three goals each
There will therefore be an interesting side issue in Sunday's final, with Gulbrandsen, Pohlers and Grings all on three goals and leading the race for the individual scoring honours. In addition, Herlovsen and Germany striker Birgit Prinz have registered twice so far and will hope to add to their tallies.
