Article body
Czech Republic champions AC Sparta Praha have signed FK Vojvodina defender Mirko Poledica on a two-year contract.
Preparations continue
The signing follows on the heels of the acquisition of Igor Gluščević from Dutch club FC Utrecht, as Sparta continue their preparations for the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round later this summer.
Poledica 'surprise'
Poledica, a 25-year-old left-sided defender, has spent the last six months on loan with Polish club KKS Lech Poznan. "I was surprised that none of the top-flight clubs in Serbia and Montenegro called me," he said. "I am sad to leave, I thought I would play next season in Serbia and Montenegro and be close to the eye of the national coach.
Champions League opportunity
"On the other hand I am very happy with the excellent conditions at Sparta and the opportunity to play in the Champions League," he continued. Serbo-Montenegrin Poledica has been capped once at international level.
