The FC Schalke 04 striker Kevin Kuranyi looks like missing Tuesday's UEFA Champions League visit of Chelsea FC due a thigh strain, while the Londoners will travel without Paulo Ferreira after the full-back was ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury.

Slomka concern
Kuranyi took a knock during Friday night’s 1-0 defeat at FC Energie Cottbus and was replaced after 65 minutes. "He pulled the muscle in his thigh. It might even be torn," said Schalke coach Mirko Slomka. Ferreira, meanwhile, strained ankle ligaments during a League Cup victory on Wednesday and did not feature in today's 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic FC. Manager Avram Grant said: "Paulo Ferreira is not available and will be out for five to six weeks. We are short, but we have a big squad and we have good players to replace him."
