AS Roma's miserable start to the season has continued with an ankle injury sustained in Wednesday's 2-1 loss at Brescia Calcio ruling goalkeeper Júlio Sérgio out for a month.

The 31-year-old Brazilian ended the game in tears after suffering the injury to his right ankle in the closing minutes. Coach Claudio Ranieri was unable to substitute him, having already brought on three replacements. A scan has since confirmed that the custodian damaged ligaments in his right ankle as well as sustaining a hairline fracture to a bone in his foot.

Júlio Sérgio is certain to miss his side's UEFA Champions League Group E matches against CFR 1907 Cluj and FC Basel 1893, with Bogdan Lobonţ and Doni in contention to deputise. Yet to win in four Serie A games this season, the Giallorossi began their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2-0 defeat at FC Bayern München on Matchday 1.
