Veron out of Deportivo tie

Juan Sebastián Veron is out of Manchester United FC's team to face RC Deportivo La Coruña.

Juan Sebastián Veron will not be part of Manchester United FC's team to face RC Deportivo La Coruña in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final due to a heel injury.

Achilles fear
The Argentinian international midfield player did not travel with his club-mates to Spain today and is to see a specialist, with United fearing he may have sustained achilles tendon damage, a scan last month showing no broken bones. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said he expected Veron to be out for two weeks.

Played against Cameroon
Veron played the full 90 minutes of his country's friendly international with Cameroon last Wednesday, but was left out of the FA Premiership match against Leeds United AFC on Saturday.

'No break'
Sir Alex said: "We're sending him to see a specialist. There is no break and it may be more to do with his achilles." Veron signed for United from S. S. Lazio in the summer for a British record €45.9m, and has played ten Champions League matches for his club, assisting three goals.

Hard games to come
His side will be desperate for him to be fit as they chase domestic and Champions League honours in the next month, as will his national side who face Nigeria, England and Sweden in the 2002 FIFA World Cup first round.
