Champions League Fantasy Football: Top performers on Matchday 12

Joselu's stunning late cameo earned nine Fantasy points while Dortmund's Gregor Kobel and Julian Brandt top-scored in goal and midfield respectively with seven each, but no one came close to Mats Hummels' remarkable total of 16 points.

With the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League finalists decided on Matchday 12, UEFA.com looks back on the two dramatic semi-final second legs at the most notable performers on #UCLfantasy, presented by Playstation.

GOALKEEPERS

As on Matchday 11, Dortmund's Gregor Kobel (€5.0m) recorded the only clean sheet across the two second legs. Another excellent performance, including five saves by the Swiss international, ensured Dortmund shut out Paris once again. The 1-0 win at the Parc des Princes sealed a 2-0 aggregate victory and a place in the Champions League final for Edin Terzić's side, while Kobel made it back-to-back seven-point Fantasy scores.

Despite Manuel Neuer (€5.9m) making six saves, Bayern failed to hold on after taking the lead at Real Madrid, eventually losing 2-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate after a late turnaround from the Spanish side. Both Neuer and Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin (€4.8m) picked up three Fantasy points, with the question now being whether Lunin will retain his place for the final with Thibaut Courtois (€6.0m) returning to fitness.

Player of the Match: Mats Hummels highlights

DEFENDERS

The incredible recent form of Mats Hummels (€5.3m) continues, the centre-back having now added attacking returns to his already stellar Fantasy game. Hummels was named Player of the Match for a second consecutive Champions League match after both leading Dortmund's back line to another clean sheet and also scoring the winning goal in Paris.

Hummels' Fantasy score of 16 points exceeded his previous season high of 12 set only last week and was comfortably the biggest return of any player on Matchday 12. That took the 35-year-old out on his own as the most valuable Fantasy asset in any position moving forward with 91 points to his name.

Two of the four goals scored on Matchday 12 came from defenders. While Hummels struck for Dortmund, Alphonso Davies (€5.7m) came off the bench to open the scoring for Bayern. The Canadian was introduced before the half-hour mark, and despite Bayern eventually losing, emerged with seven Fantasy points. Another defender to gain an attacking return in that match was Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rüdiger (€5.4m), whose assist helped him score six points.

As was the case on Matchday 11, the starting Dortmund defenders each scored substantial Fantasy totals having secured that clean sheet. Nico Schlotterbeck (€5.7m) gained eight points, while full-backs Julian Ryersen (€4.7m) and Ian Maatsen (€4.9m) each managed seven.

Second leg highlights: Paris 0-1 Dortmund

MIDFIELDERS

Fantasy points were extremely hard to come by within the midfield department on Matchday 12, underlined by a top score of seven recorded by Julian Brandt (€7.6m). The Dortmund player was the only midfielder across all four clubs to gain an attacking return in the second legs, his corner setting up Hummels' headed goal.

Dortmund captain Emre Can (€5.7m) trailed just behind Brandt with five points, six ball recoveries and a clean sheet point boosting his individual total. Although Paris bowed out, Vitinha (€6.4m) came away with four points thanks to eight ball recoveries of his own, comfortably the most of any player in his position.

Elsewhere, Fantasy managers will be happy that Jude Bellingham (€8.0m), still the highest owned player in all positions, made the final. However the Real Madrid No5 has failed to score higher than three points in each of the last four matchdays.

Player of the Match: Vinícius Júnior highlights

FORWARDS

Whilst a couple of premium-priced strikers gave their respective ownerships something to cheer on Matchday 12, the big winner was the lesser-heralded Joselu (€7.3m) after coming off the bench for the fifth time during this season's knockout stage. With Real Madrid facing elimination, Joselu struck in the 88th and 91st minutes to send the 14-time European champions to Wembley, earning nine points for Fantasy ownership of just 1%.

Vinícius Júnior (€11.2m) followed his two goals in the first leg with the assist for Joselu's equaliser and a second consecutive Player of the Match award. This helped the Brazilian earn eight Fantasy points, making it a total of 21 in the semi-finals.

While he will play no part in the final, it was a successful Champions League campaign for Harry Kane (€10.2m) from a Fantasy perspective. An assist and five points on Matchday 12 took the Bayern forward's overall tally to 74 points in 2023/24, including eight goals, four assists and two Player of the Match awards.
