Champions League Fantasy Football: Wildcard and Limitless squads for Matchday 13

The Scout has picked squads for UCL Fantasy managers playing either their Wildcard or Limitless chips in the Champions League quarter-final first legs.

Champions League Fantasy Football: Wildcard and Limitless squads for Matchday 13

There are five matchdays remaining in the UEFA Champions League and for managers on UCL Fantasy – presented by PlayStation – who still have their Wildcard and Limitless chips available, the quarter-final first legs could be an opportune time to play them. The Scout has put together a potential Matchday 13 squad for each option.

How do Wildcard and Limitless chips work?

Wildcard squad

The Wildcard allows Fantasy managers to make unlimited changes, with those players remaining in your squad after the matchday is concluded. With that in mind, Fantasy managers playing the chip before the quarter-finals should try to target players from teams they expect to progress in their tie, to minimise transfers needed after Matchday 13 while also aiming to maximise points totals in the first legs.

All four ties have the potential to be close contests, although Arsenal look well placed to get the better of Sporting CP having won 5-1 in Portugal last season. Five of the Gunners' players are therefore included in the Wildcard squad – goalkeeper David Raya (€5.5m), defenders William Saliba (€5.9m) and Jurriën Timber (€5.0m), central midfielder Declan Rice (€7.0m) and forward Viktor Gyökeres (€9.0m), the latter having swapped Sporting for Arsenal last summer and with five goals in his last three games ahead of a return to Lisbon.

Paris Saint-Germain provide three players for the squad – Willian Pacho (€5.0m) the choice in defence with budget constraints ruling out Nuno Mendes, while Vitinha (€7.3m) is selected in midfield and Ousmane Dembélé (€9.6m) is chosen up front after two goals on Friday. Quarter-final opponents Liverpool are represented by Dominik Szoboszlai (€6.9m), still the top-scoring Fantasy midfielder on 83 points.

Vinícius Júnior (€9.6m), who has 35 points from his four knockout appearances, and budget enabler Dean Huijsen (€4.5m) are the Real Madrid picks, while – ankle injury permitting – Harry Kane (€10.8m) will line up on the opposing side as Bayern München visit the Santiago Bernabéu for the first leg.

The Wildcard squad also features two Barcelona players: goalkeeper Joan García (€4.4m) and midfielder Lamine Yamal (€9.9m), the latter expected to shoulder more attacking responsibility than usual with Raphinha sidelined by injury. Dávid Hancko (€4.5m) completes the squad, with more than a third of the Atleti defender's 43 Fantasy points having come via ball recoveries – likely to be crucial again over two legs against Barça.

Kane is perhaps Tuesday's leading captaincy contender, although Vinícius Júnior is a strong alternative in the Wildcard squad. On Wednesday, Yamal or Dembélé look to be the most likely picks for the armband.

Limitless squad

The Limitless chip allows Fantasy managers to pick whatever squad they choose for one matchday, with no budget constraints – and with the squad reverting back to its previous form once the matchday is completed, anyone playing it this time around can focus all their attention on Matchday 13.

The attack is therefore an all-star affair, with both Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane included – again, with the caveat that Kane missed Bayern's weekend game due to an ankle injury. The third forward spot goes to Ousmane Dembélé, although Viktor Gyökeres and Julián Alvarez, in particular, are also worthy of consideration.

Vinícius Júnior's recent Champions League form makes him an obvious pick in midfield, while Michael Olise is level with the Brazilian on seven assists in this season's competition – both will be looking to add to their totals at the Bernabéu. Meanwhile, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored in both legs as Paris Saint-Germain beat Chelsea in the round of 16 and has five goals and two assists in his last six appearances for club and country.

Lamine Yamal is also included in the Limitless squad, and the midfield is completed by Mohamed Salah, who delivered a masterclass in Liverpool's round of 16 second leg against Galatasaray, with a goal and two assists helping him collect 13 Fantasy points. As for Salah's team-mate Virgil van Dijk, he is included as the top-scoring Fantasy defender; the Dutchman is in 42% of squads, behind only Paris' Nuno Mendes (54%), who is likewise selected.

Willian Pacho is the second-highest-scoring Paris defender and gets included along with Arsenal centre-back William Saliba and – in the expected injury absence of Gabriel – Jurriën Timber. In goal, David Raya represents Arsenal thanks to six clean sheets in this season's competition, while Paris' Matvei Safonov is preferred to the top-scoring goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, with the Real Madrid vs Bayern tie potentially a goal-heavy contest.

Either Kane or Mbappé would be strong captaincy choices on Tuesday, while Yamal, Dembélé or Kvaratskhelia look to be leading options for Wednesday's matches.
