The seedings have been confirmed for the UEFA EURO 2004™ draw in Lisbon, Portugal on 30 November.
The seedings were announced after the completion of the qualifying play-offs last night, which saw Spain, Netherlands, Croatia, Russia and Latvia book their places in next summer's final round in Portugal.
As the host, Portugal is positioned at the top of Group A. The remaining teams will be split into four pots, with title-holders France placed alongside Sweden and the Czech Republic in the first pot. Seedings are based on the performance of teams in the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying competition and the qualifying phase for UEFA EURO 2004™.
Meanwhile, eight teams have qualified for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship final round from 27 May to 8 June next year. Belarus, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Serbia and Montenegro, Sweden and Switzerland went through after play-off matches this week.
The UEFA Executive Committee will choose the host country at its meeting in Nyon, Switzerland on 10/11 December, and the draw will take place in the host country on 12 February next year.
For the final round, the eight teams will be split into two groups of four, with the top two teams in each group going through to the semi-finals. The two finalists and winners of the third-place play-off will join hosts Greece and represent Europe in the Olympic Games in August 2004.
