Bierhoff heads back to Italy

German international striker Oliver Bierhoff will return to Italy with AC Chievo Verona.

Former German international striker Oliver Bierhoff will return to Italy to play for Serie A side AC Chievo Verona.

One-year deal
The former Milan AC forward, who played in France for AS Monaco FC last season, has agreed a one-year deal with Chievo, who qualified for the UEFA Cup by finishing fifth in their inaugural top-flight campaign in 2001/02.

International retirement
The 34-year-old had considered retiring fully from football after ending his international career following his 69th and final appearance for Germany in the FIFA World Cup final defeat by Brazil.

Title winner
Bierhoff, who scored Germany's 'golden goal' winner in the EURO 96™ final against Czech Republic, made his name in Italy with Ascoli Calcio 1898 and Udinese Calcio before signing for Milan whom he helped to the Italian league title in 1999.
