Skoko takes Turkish option

KRC Genk captain Josip Skoko has signed a four-year contract with Turkish side Gençlerbirligi SK.

'Next step'
"Gençlerbirligi as a club and the city of Ankara have made quite an impression on me," said Australian international Skoko, 27. "I had a wonderful time at Genk but now it is time for the next step in my career."

Title triumph
The midfield player joined the Belgian side in January 2000 and quickly settled, taking over the captaincy at the start of the 2001/02 campaign. Skoko, who had previously played for Croatian side HNK Hajduk Split and North Geelong Warriors SC in his homeland, went on to lead Genk to the league title in his first season as captain.
