Valencia sign South American duo

Valencia CF have signed Brazilian forward Ricardo Oliveira and Uruguay's Néstor Fabián Canobbio.

Promise of goals
Ricardo Oliveira arrives on a five-year contract from Santos FC, delighted to accept the challenge of wearing the No9 shirt. "I hope to match the trust people have shown in me with goals," said a player who has scored 72 goals in 116 senior appearances.

Scoring record
Santos will retain part-ownership of the 23-year-old who shone during their run to this year's Copa Libertadores final, scoring a record nine goals - one more than the legendary Pele achieved.

Four-year deal
Canobbio, meanwhile, has signed a four-year deal and joins from CA Peñarol in his homeland. The 23-year-old is a goalscoring midfield player who can operate on the left of midfield or down the centre.

'Player for the future'
"It has taken a long time to sign this player," said Valencia president Jaime Ortí. "He is a player for the future and will succeed at Valencia." The player himself said: "I will not disappoint anyone."

Mista injury
It was not all good news at the Mestalla, however, after striker Mista suffered a broken nose at the club's training camp in Switzerland, after a collision with defender Mauricio Pellegrino. He will fly back to Spain and is expected to be sidelined for three weeks.
