AIK strengthen squad

Sweden's AIK Solna have signed the Ghanaian international midfielder Derek Boateng from Panathinaikos FC.

Squad strengthened
The 20-year-old Ghanaian international has agreed a three-and-a-half year contract and will go straight into the AIK squad ahead of the resumption of the Allsvenskan season.

'Quality player'
"We are very pleased that we have been able to sign a quality player," said AIK chairman Sanny Åslund. "Thanks to our fans and thanks to hard work within the club, we're in a position where we are able to step up a gear and sign better players. It feels really good."

Greek experience
Boateng played in Greece from 1999, first with Kalamata FC and then, from January 2001, with Panathinaikos. A member of the Ghana side that reached the finals of the 2001 FIFA World Under-19 Championship, he spent the second half of last season on loan at OFI Crete FC.
