Faber facing further lay-off

PSV Eindhoven will be without defender Ernest Faber for four more weeks due to a hamstring injury.

PSV Eindhoven will be without Ernest Faber for four more weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Torn hamstring
The 32-year-old central defender sustained the injury in Monday's friendly against Turkish team Trabzonspor, and appears to have torn his hamstring. Injuries have restricted Faber to a single first-team appearance – against AS Monaco FC in the UEFA Champions League – this season.

Reinforcements sought
Lengthy lay-offs for fellow defenders Kasper Bøgelund, André Ooijer and Wilfred Bouma have left Guus Hiddink with few defensive options, and the PSV coach admitted he was looking to bring in new faces. "Because I want to continue competing on three fronts after the winter break, I am looking for reinforcements," he said.

Van Bommel back
The match against Trabzonspor marked the return from injury of PSV captain Mark van Bommel after a two-month lay-off. The 26-year-old midfield player, who underwent surgery on a hernia problem in November, scored from the penalty spot during the match. PSV are second in the Eredivisie, level on points with leaders AFC Ajax, and face AC Perugia in the UEFA Cup third round.
