PSV swoop for young duo

PSV Eindhoven have signed Brazilian defender Alex and young Dane Lasse Qvist.

Contract agreed
The 21-year-old Alex will join PSV on 1 July, having signed a contract until 2009. "We are very glad to be able to sign a player of such stature," said the Dutch club's manager of scouting and transfers, Frank Arnesen. "He has proved himself to be a good player at all levels. He has played matches for the Brazilian national teams and in the Copa Libertadores."

Chelsea option
As part of the deal English Premiership side Chelsea have an option on Alex, who is already a full Brazilian international. "For that option, they paid us a part of the transfer fee," said PSV president Harry van Raaij on his club's official website.

Qvist signing
The Danish prospect Qvist will also arrive at the Philips stadium in the summer. The 17-year-old will join from Lyngby FC on 1 July 2004 on a three-year deal. "He is a huge talent and the competition from other teams to sign him was huge," said Arnesen, a Dane himself.

Goalscoring record
In all Qvist has hit 17 goals in 18 matches for Denmark's youth teams and featured for his country at last season's UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals in Portugal. In this season's U17 first qualifying round he hit six goals in three games and he was named Denmark's 'Talent of the Year' in 2003.
