Liverpool FC goalkeeper Chris Kirkland faces a further spell on the sidelines after breaking his wrist in training.
Six-week lay-off
The injury is likely to rule out the custodian for at least six weeks, ruling Kirkland out of the UEFA Cup fourth round second leg against Olympique de Marseille and also any potential quarter-final.
Training injury
The 22-year-old goalkeeper only recently returned to first-team action having suffered a broken finger against Bolton Wanderers FC in late December. "Unfortunately Chris was injured in training today before the team left for [Sunday's match at] Southampton [FC] and x-rays later revealed he had broken his left wrist, which is now in a cast," said a Liverpool spokesman.
Injury problems
"After consultation with the surgeon he was informed that the break was a clean one and it does not require surgery. It is expected to be at least six weeks before he is back in action." Kirkland also missed the last three months of last season after damaging knee ligaments in an FA Cup tie and did not play again until October.
